Victorinox Company

In 1884, Karl Elsener opened a knife production workshop in Ibach, in the Swiss canton of Schwyz. These were the times when Switzerland was one of the poorest countries in Europe. In its first years of operation, Elsener's workshop contributed to the fight against poverty and unemployment in the canton of Schwyz, offering work opportunities and helping to stop mass emigration.

In 1891, Elsner's company completed its first order for the Swiss army, producing a collection of soldier knives. Work on officer and sports knives – known today as the legendary Swiss Officer's Knives – continued in 1897. It was the beginning of the company's prosperity, which soon conquered the world market.

Already then, the foundations of the approach that still define Victorinox's philosophy were visible - the spirit of solidarity, deep roots in the culture of the region and appreciation for lasting values.

Currently, Victorinox is a global company offering products representing five categories: Swiss officer knives, household and professional knives, watches, bags and travel accessories, and perfumes.

Swiss officer knives are the brand's flagship product, key to the development of all product categories.

Social responsibility

Victorinox AG is an independent family company in which 90% of the shares are owned by the Victorinox Foundation. This guarantees excellent company security and brand durability - 90% of the generated profits constitute the company's capital reserve. The remaining 10% of shares are owned by a non-profit foundation that supports charitable projects.
