Sound conduction takes place in two ways: through air and through bone. Our skull also receives sound vibrations. This is called bone conduction. Through bone conduction, our eardrum vibrates, allowing us to perceive sound; we can hear it. Therefore, sound can never be blocked completely, only by blocking the ear canal.
