Vidisic is a drug in the form of a liquid eye gel that replaces natural tears in cases of tear secretion disorders. The drug is used for the symptomatic treatment of dry eye syndrome, also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca. The gel contains carbomer, which binds water, thanks to which it moisturizes the conjunctiva and corneas.

Composition

The active substance of the drug is carbomer (Carbomerum).

1 g of gel contains 2 mg of carbomer.

Excipients: cetrimide, sodium hydroxide, sorbitol, water for injections.

Dosage

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Dosage for the treatment of dry eye syndrome depends on the individual patient's condition. The drops should be administered into the conjunctival sac 3 to 5 times a day or more often, depending on needs, and about 30 minutes before bedtime (otherwise there is a risk of the eyelids sticking together). You should consult your ophthalmologist when using Vidisic for the treatment of dry eye disease, which usually requires long-term or continuous treatment.

Action

The action of the gel is to bind water through the carbomer, which creates a transparent protective layer on the surface of the eye that moisturizes the cornea and conjunctiva. Carbomer is a high-molecular compound with properties similar to natural tears, i.e. it has high viscosity and physiological pH.

Indications

Vidisic is used for the symptomatic treatment of dry eye syndrome (also called keratoconjunctivitis sicca).

Contraindications

Do not use Vidisic in people who are allergic to the active substance or any of the excipients.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Vidisic can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people): burning eyes, red eyes, eczema on the eyelid, feeling of a foreign body in the eye, giantpapillary conjunctivitis, itchy eyes, sticky feeling in the eye , superficial punctate keratitis, tearing, blurred vision.

The above reactions, including allergic reactions, may be caused by a preservative contained in the drug (cetrimide) or may be related to intolerance to one of the other ingredients of the drug. Cetrimide may also cause damage to the corneal epithelium.

Blurred vision after administration of Vidisic may be related to the high viscosity of the product.

Warnings and precautions

If dry eye symptoms persist or worsen, stop using the medicine and consult your doctor.

Vidisic is a sterile product until first opening and it is important to keep the packaging and the medicine itself clean.

Patients wearing contact lenses should remove them before using the medicine. After applying the gel, the lenses can be inserted after a minimum of 15 minutes.

Vidisic contains cetrimide as a preservative which, when used frequently or for a long period of time, may cause eye irritation (burning, hyperemia, feeling of a foreign body) and may damage the corneal epithelium. If the above side effects occur, stop taking Vidisic and contact your doctor or pharmacist who will advise you to use other medicines that do not contain preservatives.

Storage:

Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Store below 25°C.

Throw away any unused medicine 6 weeks after first opening the tube.

Using other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.

Vidisic may prolong the contact time of other ophthalmic drugs, so there should be a break of at least 5 minutes between the administration of subsequent eye drops, and in the case of ointments, at least 15 minutes. Vidisic should always be applied last.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Vidisic should not be used by pregnant or breast-feeding women.

Driving and using machines

Vidisic has moderate influence on the ability to drive and use machines. Immediately after use, the drug may cause blurred vision for a short period of time, causing blurred vision. You should not drive, use machinery, or do potentially hazardous work until your vision is clear again.
