How do soap nuts work?

What are soap nuts?

✔️ Soap nuts come from Indian and Nepalese trees called Sapindus Mukorossi.

✔️ The core is removed from the collected fruits of this tree, and the husks are dried until they become dark in color.

☝️ How to use soap nuts

1️⃣ Machine wash

About 5 to 6 halves of crushed shells should be poured into a cotton bag and thrown directly into the drum with clothes. Nuts are ideal for colored and white washing at temperatures from 30°C to 90°C.

Natural saponins do not dissolve paints in fabrics, so you can mix colors even when cooking. When washing white clothes, remember to add 1.5 tablespoons of baking soda to make the washed fabrics snow white. The nuts can remain in the washing machine until the wash cycle is completed. During rinsing, the water is cold and refreshed frequently. Little saponin is released in this phase. This small amount allows you to soften the laundry.

2️⃣ Washing dishes in the dishwasher

Place 3-4 nut shells in the dishwasher compartment and select the washing program with a higher temperature. You can add a teaspoon of baking soda or vinegar to the wash. Soap nuts in the form of powder, pour 2 teaspoons of powder into the dishwasher drawer and select a program with a higher temperature.

3️⃣ Washing dishes by hand

Prepare a decoction. For this purpose, use 5-6 nut shells, pour boiling water over them and cook over low heat for about 1 minute. After cooling, the decoction must be boiled again and left to cool overnight. You can add a teaspoon of citric acid or a few drops of citrus oil to the cold decoction. Powdered nuts Pour 1 teaspoon of powder into a glass and pour boiling water over it, or dissolve it in hot water, then leave to cool. When it cools down, you can add citric acid or citrus oil.

25 g of soap nuts should be poured with 0.5 liters of boiling water , then simmer for about 10-15 minutes. After cooling, the decoction should be boiled again, strained and left overnight. If necessary, you can prepare a decoction from a larger amount of powder, using the indicated proportions. To obtain a pleasant scent, you can add a few drops of essential oil.

3-4 nut shells should be poured with 0.5 l of boiling water. The prepared decoction should be left to cool. for night. The jewelry should be rinsed in the decoction, then dried and polished with a soft cloth. If you have powdered nuts, prepare a cleaning paste from soap nuts. For this purpose, you need to mix nut powder and water in equal proportions. Jewelry should be cleaned with the prepared paste and then polished with a soft cloth.

6️⃣ Face and body scrub

Grind the nuts in a coffee grinder or using a blender. Prepare the facial scrub with a quarter cup of powdered soap nuts. Then mix with the same amount of dried and ground lemon, orange or grapefruit peel. Add a few drops of olive oil to the mixture and mix until a creamy consistency is obtained. Avoid contact of the peeling with the eyes. To prepare a body scrub, mix 3 tablespoons of powder with a few drops of hot water until you obtain a creamy consistency. Add 2 tablespoons of sugar and a tablespoon of olive oil to the mixture. The prepared scrub should be rubbed into the body, avoiding the scalp and face, and then rinsed thoroughly.

7️⃣ Decoction of soap nuts in the garden

Removing pests from the garden - spray the plants with a weak decoction from soap nuts. Throw 3-4 peels into 1 liter of water, simmer for about 10 minutes, and then cool. Nuts powder - dissolve 1-2 teaspoons of powder in 1 liter of water and mix well. The prepared decoction should be sprayed on garden or indoor plants.
