Stevia (Stevia rebaudiana) is a perennial plant from the Asteraceae family, growing up to 1 m high. from Paraguay and Brazil. It is grown all over the world because of the sweeteners contained in its leaves.

Stevia was used thousands of years ago in the folk medicine of indigenous South Americans, where it was called "honey leaf". It was this part of the plant that was added to bitter infusions to improve their taste. In addition, Indians consumed stevia to fight obesity, strengthen the heart and get rid of heartburn. Brazilian traditional medicine recommended its consumption in case of infection, diabetes or chronic fatigue.

Steviol glycosides (steviosides) contained in Stevia rebaudiana leaves are even several hundred times sweeter than sugar, while having a very low caloric value (7 kcal/100 g). The leaf extract of this plant has a glycemic index IG = 0, which means that it does not increase the level of glucose in the blood. Our product is standardized to 97% rebaudioside A - a substance 350 times sweeter than sucrose, which - unlike other sweeteners - does not leave an unpleasant, bitter aftertaste.
