ZENTIVA Helicid Max 0.02g for symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux 14 caps

Helicid Max supports the short-term treatment of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux (e.g. heartburn and acid regurgitation - acid belching). p>

Composition:

  • The active substance is omeprazole.
  • Each capsule contains 20 mg of omeprazole.
  • The other ingredients are: capsule filling : sucrose, grains (containing corn starch and sucrose), sodium lauryl sulfate, disodium phosphate anhydrous, mannitol, hypromellose, macrogol 6000, talc, polysorbate 80, titanium dioxide (E171) and methacrylic acid and ethyl acrylate copolymer (1:1), dispersion 30%.
  • Capsule shell: gelatin, quinoline yellow (E104) and titanium dioxide (E171).

Indications and action p>

  • Helicid MAX are enteric-resistant capsules. The medicine contains the active substance omeprazole.
  • It belongs to a group of medicines called "proton pump inhibitors".
  • It works by reducing the amount of hydrochloric acid secreted in the stomach.
  • Helicid MAX is used in adult patients: for the short-term treatment of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux (e.g. heartburn and acid regurgitation - acid belching).
  • Reflux is the backflow of acid from the stomach into the esophagus (the tube connecting the throat to the stomach), which may cause inflammation and pain in the esophagus.
  • This may cause symptoms such as a burning pain in the chest that goes up to the throat (heartburn ) and a sour taste in the mouth (as a result of belching).
  • In order to achieve improvement in the treatment of the condition, it may be necessary to take the capsules for 2-3 consecutive days.

Dosage:

1 capsule once a day. The medicine can be taken for 14 days. If symptoms do not improve after 14 days, contact your doctor. To improve symptoms, it may be necessary to take the medicine for 2-3 consecutive days.

How to take it:

  • The medicine is recommended to be taken in the morning.
  • The capsules can be taken with a meal or on an empty stomach.
  • The capsules should be swallowed whole with half a glass of water.
  • The capsules must not be chewed. This is important because the capsules contain coated microgranules which prevent the medicine from being broken down by the acid in the stomach.
  • It is important that the microgranules are not damaged.
  • The microgranules contain the active substance omeprazole and are protected against disintegration in the stomach to allow omeprazole to be absorbed from the intestine.
  • The microgranules release the active substance in the intestine, where it is absorbed and the drug takes effect.

Contraindications:

When not to take Helicid MAX:

  • If you are allergic to omeprazole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
  • If you are allergic to medicines containing other proton pump inhibitors (e.g. pantoprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole, esomeprazole).
  • If you are taking a medicine containing atazanavir or nelfinavir (medicines used to treat HIV infection).

Interactions:

Helicid MAXa other medicines:

  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines you are taking or have recently taken, or what medicines you are planning to take.
  • Helicid MAX may affect the way other medicines work, and other medicines may affect the way Helicid MAX works.
  • Do not take Helicid MAX if you are taking a medicine containing: nelfinavir and atazanavir (used to treat HIV infection).
  • If you are taking any of the following medicines, tell your doctor .
  • Clopidogrel (used to prevent blood clots).
  • Ketoconazole, itraconazole or voriconazole (medicines used to treat infections caused by fungi).
  • Digoxin ( used to treat heart failure and heart disorders).
  • Diazepam (used to treat anxiety, to relieve muscle tension or to treat epilepsy).
  • Phenytoin (used to treat epilepsy) . If you are taking phenytoin, your doctor will monitor your condition when starting and stopping treatment with Helicid MAX. Medicines used to reduce blood clotting such as warfarin or other medicines containing vitamin K antagonists. Your doctor will monitor your condition when you start and stop treatment with Helicid MAX.
  • Rifampicin (used to treat tuberculosis).
  • Tacrolimus (used after organ transplantation and to treat atopic dermatitis).
  • St John's wort (Hypericum perforatum) (used to treat mild depression).
  • Cylostazol (used to treat intermittent claudication, i.e. pain in the leg muscles when walking and caused by ischemia).
  • Saquinavir (used to treat HIV infection).
  • Methotrexate (a medicine used to treat certain cancers and rheumatoid arthritis).

Taking Helicid MAX with food and drink:

  • Helicid MAX can be taken with a meal or on an empty stomach.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding:

  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask for advice ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
  • The medicine passes into breast milk.
  • Your doctor will decide whether you can take Helicid MAX if you are breast-feeding.

Driving and using machines:

  • Helicid MAX does not affect the ability to drive or operate machines. If you experience dizziness or visual disturbances, do not drive or operate machinery.
  • Helicid MAX contains sucrose and quinoline yellow. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
  • The medicine contains quinoline yellow, which may cause allergic reactions

Side effects:

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

Tell your doctor immediately if you experience:

  • Sudden wheezing, swelling of the lips, tongue and throat or body, rash, fainting or difficulty swallowing (these are signs of a serious allergic reaction).
  • Red skin with blistering or peeling . Large blisters and bleeding are also possible around the lips, eyes, mouth, nose and genitals. These may be symptoms of Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis (very rare side effects).
  • Yellowing of the skin, dark urine and tiredness (signs of jaundice).

The following side effects may occur:

Common (affects 1 to 10 in 100 people):

  • Headache.
  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, flatulence.
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Benign stomach polyps.

Uncommon (affects 1 to 10 people in 1 000):

  • Swelling of feet and ankles.
  • Dizziness, tingling and pricking sensations, drowsiness.
  • Changes in liver function tests.
  • Skin rash, hives (light pink, itchy blisters on the skin) and itchy skin.
  • General malaise and lack of energy.

Rare (occurs affects 1 to 10 people in 10,000):

  • Agranulocytosis (reduction in the number of granulocytes - a type of white blood cell, making you more susceptible to infections);
  • Thrombocytopenia (reduction in the number platelets - higher risk of bleeding and bruising);
  • Allergic reactions
  • Hyponatremia (this may lead to weakness, vomiting and muscle cramps);
  • Feeling of agitation , confusion or depression;
  • Change in sense of taste;
  • Blurred vision;
  • Sudden feeling of wheezing or shortness of breath (bronchospasm);
  • Dry mouth;
  • Inflammation of the oral mucosa;
  • Gastrointestinal mycosis;
  • Microscopic colitis;
  • Inflammation liver with or without jaundice;
  • Hair loss (alopecia);
  • Skin rash caused by skin sensitivity to light (avoid exposure to sunlight);
  • Joint pain , muscle pain;
  • Impaired kidney function (interstitial nephritis);
  • Excessive sweating.

Very rare (occurs in less than 1 people per 10,000):

  • Aggression.
  • Hallucinations (seeing non-existent objects, people).
  • Severe liver dysfunction leading to liver failure and encephalitis.
  • Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis (see beginning of point 4).
  • Muscle weakness.
  • Breast enlargement in men.

Frequency not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data)

  • If you have been taking Helicid MAX for more than three months, it is possible that your blood levels may decrease magnesium in the blood. Low magnesium levels may manifest themselves as fatigue, involuntary muscle contractions, disorientation, convulsions, dizziness, rapid heart rate.
  • If you notice any of the above symptoms, inform your doctor immediately. Low magnesium levels may lead to decreased potassium or calcium levels in the blood. Your doctor may recommend regular blood tests to check your magnesium levels.
  • Rash that may cause joint pain.
