Description

Famotidine Ranigast is a drug in the form of coated tablets intended for adults. It contains famotidine (belonging to a group of drugs called H2 receptor antagonists), which inhibits the secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Famotidine Ranigast is used for the short-term symptomatic treatment of stomach ailments that are not related to an organic gastrointestinal disease, such as hyperacidity, heartburn, indigestion (dyspepsia). The effect of the drug lasts for 10-12 hours.

Composition

1 tablet contains:

• active substance: 20 mg of famotidine,
• excipients: tablet core: gelatinized starch, powdered cellulose, magnesium stearate, talc; coating: hypromellose, titanium dioxide, macrogol 6000, talc, cochineal red lake (E124).

Indications

The drug Famotidine Ranigast 20 mg is used for the symptomatic treatment of:

• heartburn,
• hyperacidity,
• dyspepsia.

Action

Famotidine Ranigast reduces the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, relieving unpleasant symptoms such as heartburn, hyperacidity and indigestion.

Dosage

The medicine should always be taken exactly as described in the leaflet for the patient or as recommended by a doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

• Adults:1 tablet of 20 mg daily.
• If the symptoms recur, you can take 1 tablet 20 mg twice a day.
• The daily dose of the drug should not exceed 40 mg (2 tablets).

Contraindications

The drug Famotidine Ranigast should not be used in case of:

• allergic to the active substance or any of the ingredients,
• history of allergy to other H2 antagonists,
• kidney failure.

Side effects

This medicine, like all medicines, can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

Interactions

• Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
• Famotidine does not affect interactions with warfarin (a medicine that reduces blood clotting), theophylline (a medicine used to treat asthma and other respiratory diseases), phenytoin (an antiepileptic medicine), diazepam (an anti-anxiety and sedative medicine), propranolol (a heart medicine), aminophenazone, phenazone (medicines analgesics).
• Changes in the pH of gastric contents may affect the bioavailability of certain drugs (e.g., reducing the absorption of atazanavir (an antiviral drug used to treat HIV infection)).
• Famotidine may reduce the absorption ketoconazole and itraconazole (antifungals). Ketoconazole should be administered two hours before famotidine.
• Antacids may reduce the absorption of famotidine and lead to lower famotidine serum concentrations. Famotidine should be taken 1-2 hours before the administration of antacids.
• The administration of probenecid (a medicine used to treat gout) may delay the excretion of famotidine. Avoid co-administration of famotidine and probenecid.
• Co-administration of sucralfate (a protective agent used to treat peptic ulcer disease) should be avoided within two hours of administration of famotidine.
• There is a risk of loss of effectiveness of calcium carbonate. , used in dialysis patients as a medicine to reduce excessively high levels of phosphates in the blood (hyperphosphatemia), if it is given together with famotidine.
