Product description

Rennie® Antacidum is a drug in the form of lozenges with a quick action to neutralize excess hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Thanks to the content of two active substances: calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate, excess acid is converted into water and mineral salts.

How do Rennie® heartburn tablets work?

Calcium carbonate has a quick neutralizing effect, while magnesium carbonate additionally intensifies this effect. The combination of these two ingredients allows you to neutralize heartburn, providing mild relief to your stomach.

In vitro acid neutralization studies (artificial stomach model) have shown that calcium carbonate-based antacids, when exposed to acid, cause the immediate onset of acid neutralization process, bringing a clinically significant change in pH within minutes.

Rennie® Antacidum is a medicinal product for heartburn and hyperacidity. It has a mint flavor and is intended for adults and children over 12 years of age. Importantly, the medicinal product, in accordance with the recommended dosage, can also be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Indications

Rennie® Antacidum is used for the symptomatic treatment of ailments related to hyperacidity of the stomach, such as:

heartburn,

indigestion,

flatulence,

nausea,

feeling of fullness or heaviness in the upper abdomen,

belching,

burning in the stomach.

Composition

1 tablet contains:

  • active substances: calcium carbonate 680 mg and heavy magnesium carbonate 80 mg,
  • excipients: sucrose, gelatinized corn starch, potato starch, magnesium stearate, talc, light liquid paraffin, mint flavor (mint oil, maltodextrin, gum arabic, silicon dioxide), lemon flavor (flavoring substances - 100% lemon oil, maltodextrin, α-tocopherol).

Action

Neutralization of excess hydrochloric acid in the stomach, and as a result, alleviating the symptoms of heartburn and hyperacidity.

Dosage

  • Adults and children over 12 years of age:1 to 2 tablets at a time , one hour after meals and at bedtime.
  • Do not take more than 11 tablets a day.
  • The tablets can be sucked or chewed.
  • If you experience heartburn or pain associated with hyperacidity, you can take one or two additional tablets between the usual dosing times.
  • It is not recommended to use the drug for a long time and take it in high doses due to the possibility of side effects.
  • If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

If symptoms do not improve within 7 days or only partially improve, you should contact your doctor as tests are recommended to rule out a more serious condition.

Contraindications

The medicine for heartburn and stomach acidity should not be used if the patient is:

  • allergic to the active substances or any of the other ingredients of the medicine,
  • increased concentration of calcium in the blood (hypercalcemia),
  • calcium kidney stones,
  • severe kidney failure,
  • lower concentration of inorganic phosphates in the blood blood (hypophosphatemia),
  • hypersensitivity to calcium carbonate.

Storage

Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children, at a temperature below 25 °C and protect from moisture.

Side effects

  • Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
  • Rennie Antacidum for heartburn and hyperacidity may cause hypersensitivity reactions (very rarely reported), the clinical symptoms of which may include:

    rash,

    hives,

    angioedema and anaphylactic shock ,

    nausea,

    vomiting,

    stomach discomfort and diarrhea,

    muscle weakness.

  • Long-term use of high doses, especially in patients with impaired renal function, may cause hypermagnesemia (increase in the level of magnesium in the blood) or hypercalcemia (increase in the level of calcium in the blood) and alkalosis (increase in the level of alkali in the blood), which may cause symptoms of digestive system and muscle weakness.
  • Symptoms of milk-alkaline syndrome:

    taste disturbances,

    calcifications, weakness,

    headaches,

    excess nitrogen in the blood (azotemia).

Interactions

  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are currently taking , or recently, and about any medications you plan to take.
  • Rennie® Antacidum may affect the rate and extent of absorption of other medications, so all medications should be taken 1 or 2 hours before or after taking the tablets. sucking Rennie® Antacidum, in particular:

    lantibiotics from the tetracycline group and other antibacterial drugs - quinolones,

    cardiac glycosides, such as: digoxin,

    bisphosphonates (used to treat osteoporosis),

    dolutegravir (antiretroviral drug used to treat HIV infection),

    levothyroxine (used, among others, in hypothyroidism),

    eltrombopag (used to treat thrombocytopenia),

    phosphates,

    fluorides,

    iron preparations,

    thiazide diuretics,

    due to the increased risk of hypercalcemia in the case of simultaneous use of thiazide diuretics, serum calcium levels should be monitored regularly.

  • Medicine for heartburn and stomach acidity should not be taken with large amounts of milk or dairy products.

Warnings and precautions

  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Rennie® Antacidum. pharmacist.
  • When using Rennie® Antacidum for heartburn and stomach acidity, you should be especially careful if:

    the patient has kidney failure (the levels of calcium, phosphates and magnesium in the blood should be checked regularly) ,

    the patient has excessive excretion of calcium in the urine (hypercalcuria),

    the patient uses the drug for a long time and in large doses it may cause (especially in people with renal failure) an increase in magnesium and calcium levels in the blood and milk-alkaline syndrome. This, in turn, may cause nausea, vomiting, excretion of large amounts of urine, increased thirst, dehydration, fatigue and disturbances in orientation and thinking (so-called confusion); increasing the risk of developing kidney stones; muscle weakness.

  • Due to the increased risk of hypercalcemia when thiazide diuretics are used concomitantly, serum calcium levels should be monitored regularly.
  • The drug should not be taken for a long period of time.
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
  • One tablet contains 475 mg of sucrose; This should be taken into account by patients with diabetes (if you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product).
  • Do not use in children under 12 years of age.
